Sacramento County is celebrating the opening of Koala House 2, a new sober living and transitional residence designed to provide women with a safe, supportive environment as they continue their recovery journeys.
Koala House 2 unites Sacramento County’s Department of Health Services mission while expanding Sacramento Recovery House’s continuum of recovery-centered services and provides an important next step for women transitioning from Gateway House and other Sacramento County treatment programs.
Sacramento Recovery House is partnering with the County on this residence to provide gender responsive, trauma-informed residential services to adults seeking recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders, and their related issues.
The new residence is a needed substance use resource for Sacramento County to assist people in stepping down care with the goal of finding permanent supportive housing. Koala House 2 will help women build stability and independence while developing the skills, relationships and connections needed to sustain long-term recovery.
“Recovery does not happen in isolation,” said Lori Miller, Division Manager, a representative of Sacramento County Behavioral Health Services. “It happens when we work together, when there is support, when people have safe places to live, healthy relationships, meaningful opportunities and a community that believes in their ability to build a different future.”
