The Department of Human Assistance (DHA) is excited to launch its new public-facing data dashboard. The dashboard provides the public with an easy way to see how DHA benefits programs are being used around the County.
Designed to make information more accessible and transparent, the dashboard includes a Program Summary Report that highlights key information for each program. Users can view additional details under each program by district by selecting “explore more.” From there, selecting a district on the map or in the legend allows users to explore district-specific information. By clicking “See Details,” users can view information broken down by ZIP code on the map and explore the top cities listed on the right. This feature also allows cities to identify information specific to their communities.
To support accessibility, an ADA version of the dashboard is available through the link in the upper-right corner. The dashboard also includes a page highlighting customer engagement with BenefitsCal, DHA’s online benefits portal.
Users may notice that some benefits are issued to individuals living in ZIP codes outside Sacramento County. This is normal and reflects how the programs operate. Customers can transfer their cases between counties without having to reapply for benefits. These intercounty transfers typically take 30 to 60 days, depending on the county. DHA also performs certain eligibility-related services on behalf of other counties and receives reimbursement for those efforts, including work associated with the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI).
The dashboard features several programs that support individuals and families. These include:
- CalWORKs (California Work and Responsibility to Kids )- is the California welfare implementation of the federal welfare-to-work Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program that provides cash aid and services to eligible needy California families.
- CAPI - A state-funded program that provides monthly cash benefits to non-citizens who are ineligible for SSI/SSP due to immigration status
- Kin-GAP - Is a permanency option for children in long-term placement with relatives, which provides a monthly payment to the relative guardian.
- RCA - Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) is a federally funded program that provides cash aid to eligible refugees for a limited time, typically up to 12 months, to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Future improvements to the dashboard will include features such as hover-over descriptions of program titles and updates based on public feedback. These enhancements are planned for Phase 2 and beyond, with the goal of making the dashboard even more useful, accessible and user-friendly to provide the public with a clearer understanding of DHA programs, the communities they serve and the benefits they deliver.
