Supporting Sacramento County Families: Expanding Our Pet Pantry to Feed More Than Pets

At Bradshaw Animal Shelter, we believe helping animals means helping people too. For years, our Pet Pantry has provided temporary food assistance to Sacramento County residents who need a little extra help caring for their pets.

Now, as many in our community face financial hardships, we’re expanding that mission by launching a temporary Food Pantry — offering canned food for both pets and people.

How It Works
Our Pet Pantry and Food Pantry are available to Sacramento County residents living in unincorporated areas who need short-term help feeding their pets or their families.

·        Where: Bradshaw Animal Shelter – 3839 Bradshaw Rd, Sacramento, CA

·        When: Tuesday–Sunday, 12 - 5 p.m.

·        What to Bring: Valid identification is required each time you receive assistance.

·        How Much Food:

o   For pets: The quantity of food distributed is based on the number of animals in the home, their size, age and available supply. We strive to provide up to a month’s worth of food per household when resources allow.

o   For people: The temporary Food Pantry will provide a limited supply of canned goods per household, intended to offer short-term support during times of need.

·        Frequency: Both programs are designed for temporary assistance, not long-term support. If help is needed for longer than six months, a review of the household’s circumstances may be required for continued eligibility.

·        Eligibility Reminder: Recipients may not add a new pet to their household within 90 days of receiving food assistance through Bradshaw or any other area shelter program.

The shelter reserves the right to limit or refuse assistance to ensure fairness and to serve as many community members as possible.

How You Can Help
Our pantry runs entirely on donations from caring individuals and local businesses. If you’d like to help us stock the shelves and open the pantry to more Sacramento County families, please consider donating through our Amazon Wishlist.

Every can of food — whether for a person or a pet — helps a neighbor in need. Together, we can make sure no one in Sacramento County goes hungry, and every family stays whole.
