Sacramento County has been awarded $542,532.91 in Prohousing Incentive Program (PIP) funding from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).

PIP is designed to reward local governments that have received the Prohousing Designation with additional funding to accelerate affordable housing production and preservation.

Sacramento County can use these funds for:

  • The predevelopment, development, acquisition, rehabilitation and preservation of multifamily, residential live-work, and rental housing that is affordable to extremely low, very low, low- and moderate-income households, including necessary operating subsidies.
  • Matching portions of funds placed into the local housing trust funds.

“These funds help strengthen our ability to support a diverse range of housing opportunities throughout Sacramento County,” said Todd Smith, Planning Director. “We’re focused on making it easier to build affordable and workforce housing that meets the needs of our growing communities.”

Sacramento County earned its Prohousing Designation in February 2023. This designation recognizes the County’s commitment to pro-housing policies and practices that remove barriers to housing production and streamline the development process.

The funding will help Sacramento County continue implementing strategies that promote housing availability and affordability while supporting the County’s broader goals for sustainable growth and community development.
