Sacramento County Regional Parks is marking National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, with free entry to its parks and special volunteer opportunities designed to engage community members of all ages in stewardship of our public lands.

Here’s a quick run-down of all the fun Regional Parks has planned:

  • BioBlitz: grab your phone, download the iNaturalist app, and help us discover plants, fungi, and wildlife across our parks. Everyone can join and there’s no experience needed!
  • Community Garden Workday at Gibson Ranch: We’re setting up a community garden and you’re invited to get your hands dirty with us on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. You can help us: work on a demonstration plot, create pathways and spread mulch. No green thumb or registration required!
  • Volunteer Workday at the Cosumnes River Preserve: Join us for a fun-filled, volunteer workday on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. – noon. From planting natives to removing invasive species (by land and boat), it’s a chance to protect our shared lands. Tools, gloves, and lunch provided afterward. Registration is required via Eventbrite.

These events are open to everyone — no previous experience required. Whether you want to hike, explore, volunteer, or just spend time outdoors, Sept. 27 is a day to get outside, connect with nature, and give back.
