Sacramento County is proud to partner with Volunteers of America (VOA) in supporting one of our most vulnerable populations - older adults who have experienced abuse, neglect or homelessness.
On May 28, VOA hosted a ribbon-cutting to unveil a beautifully renovated backyard at the Senior Safe House. This six-bedroom emergency shelter located in Sacramento County provides temporary housing and supportive services to older adults. The shelter is for older adults referred by Sacramento County’s Adult Protective Services (APS). The newly renovated backyard garden offers those staying at the shelter a safe outdoor space where they can relax and enjoy outdoor activities.
The renovation was made possible by Lennar, who served as the builder captain, and HomeAid, who generously provided resources and project support. Together, they turned the previously underutilized backyard into a peaceful retreat.
“This backyard renovation is more than just landscaping,” said Christie Holderegger, President and CEO of VOA. “It’s a symbol of dignity restored and community working together to show our seniors that they are seen, valued and safe.”
Sacramento County thanks all partners involved for their commitment to helping the older adults at the Senior Safe House.
