A single act of kindness can change thousands of lives. That’s exactly what one Sacramento County resident did with his final gift to animals in need.

Bradshaw Animal Shelter is honored to share the news of a remarkable donation that will directly improve the lives of pets in our care and throughout the Sacramento County community. On July 22, 2025, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors formally accepted a generous $187,991.08 donation from the estate of William F. Price, an Army veteran, former Sacramento County Child Welfare Services worker, and devoted animal advocate.

This heartfelt donation reflects Mr. Price’s lifelong compassion and his belief in supporting the wellbeing of shelter pets, especially cats with special medical needs. Thanks to his generosity, the funds will be used to enhance veterinary care at Bradshaw Animal Shelter and expand access to vital services in the community.

Specifically, the donation will fund:

  • A new dental table for our onsite veterinary hospital, helping us provide high-quality care for animals with dental and oral health needs.
  • Mobile MASH (Mobile Animal Spay/Neuter Hospital) Clinics that bring free or low-cost sterilization services to pet owners in underserved areas of Sacramento County.

Mr. Price’s journey with animals began unexpectedly when he rescued a small cat he affectionately named Sweetie. Though Sweetie’s time with him was short, the experience sparked a lifelong love for cats, especially those with medical challenges. Over the years, he adopted several shelter cats, gave them loving homes, and became a quiet champion for their care and wellbeing.

His generosity will now help thousands of animals receive the medical attention they deserve while supporting pet owners and strengthening our community.

We are deeply grateful for Mr. Price’s legacy. His compassion will continue to make a difference in the lives of animals for years to come.
