High Volume Registered Voter Residence Review

Did you know that Sacramento County Voter Registration & Elections (VRE) goes above and beyond the diligence required by law to maintain an accurate voter file and prevent potential voter fraud? After every November general election, VRE reviews the voter rolls for addresses with 10 or more registered voters.

There are many residential addresses in Sacramento County that register 10 or more active voters, including group living facilities, like senior care homes, addiction treatment centers and transitional shelters; student housing; religious and secular housing; and marinas.

Most of the addresses, however, are large, multigenerational homes with three—or even four—family generations living together. All residences in the voter file with 10 or more active voters are researched by staff to determine the type and size of the residence, as well as the legal relationship and voting history of the occupants.

Then VRE sends out Voter Notification Cards to each registered voter at the residential addresses with more than 10 active registered voters whose high volume is not an obvious and expected feature of their type of residence. We use the information gained from the return of those cards to ensure that our voter file is as accurate and up to date as possible.
