The Sacramento County Health Center is expanding virtual appointment options to better serve patients who need flexible, convenient access to care. The shift reflects a broader commitment to modernizing services while reducing barriers that often keep people from getting the help they need.

“As part of the Department of Health Services, we are committed to ensuring that Sacramento County remains a healthy and thriving place for everyone,” said Michelle Besse, Sacramento County Interim Division Manager. “We saw a need to support our community in staying healthy no matter their schedule, location or situation. Expanding virtual care is one of many ways we’re meeting people where they are.”

Virtual visits can be especially helpful for individuals who face transportation challenges, work long hours, juggle family responsibilities or prefer the comfort and privacy of home. Many common appointments can be done virtually, including but not limited to follow-up visits, medication refills, mental health services, chronic condition check-ins and certain wellness screenings.

“For many patients, virtual visits eliminate the need to miss work, arrange childcare or take multiple buses just to speak with a doctor,” added Besse.

This expansion also supports the County’s broader goals of improving health outcomes for underserved populations including residents in rural areas, low-income communities and those living across our large and diverse county. In addition to virtual visits, the Health Center has increased same-day appointment availability for urgent needs, added text messaging communication with clients and now offers more evening and weekend hours.

Patients should contact the Sacramento County Health Center to find out if a virtual visit is right for them. Some services still require in-person care, and the Health Center’s medical team can help determine the best option based on each patient’s needs.
