20 Consecutive Months of Growth Propel Sacramento International Forward

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) has been on quite a streak. For 20 straight months, more and more travelers have chosen SMF as their starting point, and July marked the busiest month in the airport’s history.

More than 1.3 million passengers passed through the terminals in July, a 3.3 percent increase compared to the same time last year. That momentum carried over from June, which had already set a record of its own.

“This growth really underscores SMF’s importance to the Sacramento region,” said Sacramento County Department of Airports Director Cindy Nichol. “It reflects the strength of our partnerships with airlines, the dedication of our staff, and the confidence travelers place in us as their airport of choice.”

More Flights, More Choices

Part of what’s fueling the record numbers is a busier flight schedule than ever before. In July, SMF offered up to 202 daily departures on peak travel with flights from 11 airlines to 52 nonstop destinations.

SMF has added new service to Kansas City, Baltimore, Anchorage, Morelia and Puerto Vallarta, expanding travel options for both business and leisure passengers. Whether travelers are heading across the country or down to Mexico, Sacramento now has more direct connections than ever.

A Strong Outlook Ahead

While July traditionally sees the heaviest summer traffic, early reports show August is holding strong, keeping pace with last year. With Labor Day around the corner, SMF is already preparing for another busy holiday weekend.

For Sacramento County residents, the growth of SMF means more than just numbers. It’s about convenience, expanded opportunities to travel, and a stronger role for our region on the national and international stage.
