The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) will close all lanes on a stretch of South Watt Avenue starting 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 15. The full road closure will run from Florin Road and Elder Creek Road. The road is expected to reopen at 6 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 18. The closure will allow the California Central Traction Company to perform necessary work on the South Watt Avenue railroad crossing.
The full closure is part of the larger South Watt Avenue Improvement Project. Along with an improved railroad crossing, the entire project will also add two additional traffic lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes, and replace the Morrison Creek Bridge. The South Watt Avenue Improvement project is a critical step to improve the South Watt Avenue corridor between Florin Road and Jackson Road.
During the full closure, SacDOT will set up detours around the repair work. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be directed to Bradshaw Road.
Northbound traffic will be detoured east on Florin Road, north on Bradshaw Road, west on Elder Creek Road, and back to northbound South Watt Avenue.
Southbound traffic will be detoured east on Elder Creek Road, south on Bradshaw Road, west on Florin Road, and back to southbound South Watt Avenue.
Access will be provided to those residences and businesses located on South Watt Avenue between Florin Road and Elder Creek Road during the closure, but the roadway will be closed to all other traffic. Learn more about the project by using visiting the project website.
