Sacramento County Animal Care Services has entered into a new contract with the City of Galt, effective June 1, 2023. This agreement ensures that citizens of the City of Galt will now have access to the same comprehensive animal care services as the rest of Sacramento County.

Under the new agreement, residents should bring stray pets directly to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, located at 3839 Bradshaw Rd, which will now serve as the designated facility for handling stray pets from Galt. Previously, they were brought to the Galt police department.

The animal admission doors at Bradshaw Animal Shelter are open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. The shelter is closed to the public on Mondays.

“We are very excited about this partnership between the City of Galt and the County of Sacramento, and we are looking forward to serving the residents of Galt and the pets in our community," said Annette Bedsworth, Director of Bradshaw Animal Shelter.

Citizens who find pets or who are looking for their own lost pets are encouraged to visit the shelter's Lost and Found page for additional resources and steps they can take toward reunification.

In the case of sick or injured stray pets found within the City of Galt, concerned citizens can now dial 3-1-1, and an animal control officer will pick up the pet. Animal control officers are on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond to emergencies and urgent situations.

Residents of the City of Galt seeking further information about the new services or requiring guidance on how to proceed with a particular situation can visit the shelter's website or call 3-1-1 to speak with knowledgeable staff who will provide the necessary assistance. Residents of the City of Galt can also visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter's website to learn more about available animal services, including upcoming vaccination and microchipping pet clinics, the community cat program, licensing, and the community pet pantry.

This collaboration between Sacramento County Animal Care Services and the City of Galt marks a significant step towards enhancing animal welfare and ensuring the well-being of stray animals. With expanded services now available, the community can look forward to a more effective and compassionate approach to animal care.
