Today is every pet's favorite holiday, National Pet Day! While most pet owners take great care of their pets every day, National Pet Day is the perfect opportunity to think about what can be done to make your fur friend's life even better. National Pet Day can even be celebrated by those who don't own pets.
Don't believe us? Here are our tips for celebrating National Pet Day.
Individuals with pet
- Make sure your home is free of pet hazards. For a list of common household hazards, check out the American Veterinary Medical Association's website.
- Make sure your pet is healthy. Bradshaw Animal Shelter offers rabies vaccination and microchip clinics every month.
- If you have a dog, take them for a trip to the Roy C. Marcum Bark Park, the public dog park in front of the animal shelter.
- Consider adopting another pet if it makes sense for your current household and lifestyle.
Individuals who would like a pet
- Adopt one from Bradshaw Animal Shelter. Adoption fees are very reasonable and include spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccines and monthly preventatives, a microchip and a 1-year license for Sacramento County residents. Adoption fees are currently waived for pets who have been at the shelter for more than 30 days. Choose from cats, dogs and more!
Individuals who aren't ready for a pet right now
- Volunteer at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter.
- Help save a life by becoming a foster care provider and giving a pet a temporary home.
- Consider donating to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter or pet owners in need.
- Be on the lookout for and report acts of animal abuse.
Whether you're a pet owner or not, there are many ways to celebrate National Pet Day. However you choose, be sure to share your favorite photos of your favorite fur friends with the Bradshaw Animal Shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
