2022 Crop and Livestock Report Released

During her presentation of the 2022 Sacramento County Crop and Livestock Report at the Nov. 7 Board of Supervisors Meeting, Agriculture Commissioner, Chris Flores reported that the gross production value of all agricultural commodities in Sacramento County was more than $602 million, up 5% from $568 million in 2021!

Even with an 8% decrease from 2021, wine grapes were once again the leading cash crop in Sacramento County, with a value of more than $188 million, or more than 31% of the total gross value of all crops. More than 38,330 acres of wine grapes were harvested in Sacramento County in 2022. 

Market milk held on to the number two spot with a total value of more than $91 million, while pears kept the number three spot with more than $56 million.  

“Agriculture continues to be a significant contributor to the local economy and plays a crucial role in preserving the region's rural character," said Flores. “The County's diverse agricultural landscape includes farms, ranches, orchards, and vineyards and produces crops such as rice, tomatoes, pears, and grapes, as well as dairy and livestock commodities."

  5. Aquaculture (bass, carp, catfish, crayfish, sturgeon and caviar): $32,427,000
  6. Corn silage: $24,239,000
  7. Nursery Stock (ornamental trees and plants, Christmas trees and sod): $22,802,000
  8. Hay/Alfalfa: $22,486,000
  9. Cattle and calves: $16,747,000
  10. Rice: $14,793,000

The 2022 Sacramento County Crop and Livestock Report​ presents highlights the Board of Supervisors. The Board actively supports and promotes sustainable agricultural practices, to ensure the long-term viability of farming and the preservation of the County's rich agricultural heritage.​
