County Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Department of Finance was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award for the 30th consecutive year for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2018. The certificate is issued from the Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA) for the County's Annual Financial Report, also referred to as the (AFR). The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945. This prestigious national award recognizes conformance with the highest standards for the preparation of state and local government financial reports and must be easily readable and efficiently organized, and conform to program standards, accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
Personnel Services’ Recruitment Team Receives Award for Excellence
The Western Region International Public Management Association for Human Resources presented its Agency Award for Excellence to Sacramento County Department of Personnel Services’ Recruitment Team. The award recognizes overall quality, accomplishments and contributions. The Recruitment Team was formed in 2016 to focus on community outreach to promote job opportunities and build a diverse talent pipeline into Sacramento County employment. The Team has organized several extremely successful events, including the Sacramento County Career Fair that had over 1,200 job seekers registered to attend this year, as well as a number of activities that have increased the County’s visibility in the community through offsite events with local education institutions, military bases and nonprofit organizations. Other accomplishments include Youth in Government Day, creation of a recruitment video and Job Seeker Resources web page.
County in Top Ranking for the 2019 Digital Counties Survey
Sacramento County endeavors to deliver streamlined government services by implementing initiatives that encourage open data and collaboration, while enhancing cybersecurity and best practices. The Center for Digital Government’s 2019 Digital Counties Survey acknowledged these efforts by awarding Sacramento County with a sixth place ranking among U.S. counties for deploying innovative technology practices. The Digital Counties Survey provides an annual measure of county performance and innovation in using technology.
Assessor’s Information Technology NACo Achievement Award
The Sacramento County Assessor’s Office has been recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2019 Achievement Award in the category of Information Technology for its NewAIMS Permit Module and Permit/Scanning Team. The Permit Module for the Assessor’s Information Management System (NewAIMS) was built in-house by the department’s systems developers, working with knowledgeable Real Property staff and managers, Technical Services, and Assessment Standards divisions, to replace the labor-intensive, paper-based building permits and plans processes. A Permit and Scanning Team was created to manage the permit processes and to scan documents for the Assessor’s Office. The NewAIMS Permit Module provides operational efficiencies by implementing an integrated electronic workflow, improved data verification, record tracking, security, and flexibility for future module enhancements. The Module includes the ability to: receive/import permit data generated from multiple permitting jurisdictions; capture/store permit and building plans electronically; provide automated clerical process; provide reliable data analysis reports; and scale to increasing permit and building activity.
Black Child Legacy Campaign Nationally Recognized
On March 2, The National Association of Counties Health Steering Committee unanimously approved a resolution in support of the Sacramento County Black Child Legacy Campaign. The campaign is aimed at reducing deaths of African American children by 10 to 20 percent by the year 2020 in Sacramento County. Over the past six years of the community-driven movement, it has shown promising results at reducing black infant mortality and is quickly becoming a model to address the on-going challenge of disparate childhood death rates. On Jan. 29, the Sacramento County Child Death Review Team that includes the departments of Child, Family and Adult Services, Human Assistance, Probation as well as First 5 Sacramento went before the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to present a report of the FY 2017-2018 progress of the Black Child Legacy Campaign. Those in the countywide initiative shared that in three of the four leading causes the rate of child deaths in the African American community has decreased due to County investments.
