SACOG Regional Project of the Year: Watt Avenue @ US 50 Interchange Improvement Project

The Sacramento Area Council​ of Governments has awarded Sacramento County’s Watt Avenue @ US-50 Interchange Project with its prestigious SACOG Salutes Project of the Year Award.  The major $25 million interchange modification project was completed in 2015. Interchange improvements provide numerous regional and local benefits for all travel modes including improved safety and reduced delay for motorists, and unique transit, bicycle and pedestrian features that set it apart from other California interchanges. In addition to its significant capacity and congestion-relief improvements, the project features a continuous bicycle/pedestrian pathway separated from vehicular traffic and a dedicated bi-directional Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

American Public Works Association Project of the Year: Old Florin Town Improvement Project

The Sacramento Chapter of APWA has awarded its Project of the Year Award to Sacramento County’s Old Florin Town Improvement Project. The project includes various roadway improvements, and streetscape enhancements that create an attractive pedestrian and bicycling environment, and will encourage and support new development along this corridor.   The project included various roadway and safety improvements including two new traffic signals and a modified railroad crossing. Decorative features constructed with the project include a water tower replica circa 1930, sixty new trees and plaza enhancements with ornate fencing adjacent to the local community park.

Youth Law Center Awards Chief Probation Officer Lee Seale

The Youth Law Center recognized Sacramento County C​hief Probation Officer Lee Seale on December 12 at the 2016 Loren Warboys Unsung Heroes event. Seale was honored for his trailblazing leadership in Sacramento's probation agency to ensure the educational success and aspirations of youth in and out of detention. His dedication to reform helps to protect and improve the welfare of children in the juvenile justice systems.

Probation Officer Ken Silva Honored for Service

Supervising Probation Officer Ken Silva was presented the Award of Excellence by the Chief Probation Officers of California (CP​​OC) at the 2016 CPOC Annual Awards Luncheon in San Diego, California, on December 8, 2016.

One CPOC Award is presented each year to an employee w​ho is making significant contributions to probation services.  

Officer Silva was recognized for his work in serving populations including mentally ill youth, commercially sexually exploited children, and youth who are involved with both Child Protective Services and Probation.

Sacramento County Probation Department Receives the CSAC Challenge Award

The California State Association of Counties (CSAC) awarded Sacramento County Probation Department a 2016 Challenge Award on November 11, 2016. Probation clients often face two major challenges: finding ‘felon-friendly’ employers who are willing to hire them, and developing the necessary skills to obtain gainful employment. To help them succeed, Sacramento County Probation partnered with the Northern California Construction Training and Sacramento County Office of Education to create the Career Training Partnership program. This nine-month program identifies those clients who meet specific criteria, educates and trains them in various construction-related fields, facilitates referrals to jobs, provides transportation and monitors clients’ progress. Sacramento County Ranks 7th in 2016 Green Fleet Award

The Government Green Fleet​ Award​ ​is given to the top 50 federal, state and local government fleets in North America. Sacramento County’s Fleet Services climbed from the position of 25th in 2015 to 7th place this year. The upward momentum is attributed to the continued adoption of renewable fuels; sustainable fleet policies and planning; using the right sized vehicle for the job; knowing the emerging green fleet technologies; sharing the importance of green fleet management with employees and leaders; and participating in supplementary green-related initiatives.

Inaugural Hack4Sac Event Wins Digital Government Achievement Award

The Center for Digital Government recognized Hack4Sac, the County’s first civic-technology engagement event, with their 2016​ Digi​​tal Government Achievement Award in the category of “Driving Digital Government​.” The County’s Hack4Sac event used technology to re-conceptualize, transform and digitize the way government interacts with customers and the public. The multi-week hackathon encouraged participants to build solutions using the County’s open​ data sets to help our community and resulted in nine teams submitting 13 complete, mature technology solutions.

Department of Human Assistance Accepted The Center for Digital Government Award for SMART

The 2016 Digital Government Achievement was awarded for the Department of Human Assistance’s web-based case management and workflow support tool. This custom designed, developed, and implemented Service Management and Reporting Tool (SMART) was recognized for identifying tasks for specific casefiles, assigning these tasks evenly across Service Center employees, and then tracking the lifecycle of each task to closure. SMART has built in fraud detection, reduces error rates and has increased worker efficiency – along with producing real-time reports to review staff performance, service delivery and program savings. With this innovative technology, the County is reducing costs while improving services to clients.  

Waste Management & Recycling Wins Award for “SacHazTracker”

The North American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) has recognized the Department of Waste Management & Recycling for its highly evolved household hazardous waste tracking application as a model program for other jurisdictions to replicate. SacHazTracker is a custom web-based software developed by County IT staff and is used at the County’s household hazardous waste collection facilities.  SacHazTracker not only tracks customers and their hazardous waste, the data collected ensures disposal fees are not inflated and are based on actual costs for processing the materials. Earlier this year, the City of Elk Grove also began using SacHazTracker.

Sacramento County Wins Tech Savvy Award

The Public Technology Institute (PTI) awards a handful of city and county governments each year with the Tech Savvy designation. PTI announced in August that Sacramento County was awarded with the PTI 2016 Tech Sa​vvy Designation having proven exceptional talent, great ideas, a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, creativity, technology leadership and proven technology best practices across the entire enterprise. Some of the elements of the County submission of excellence included the creation of 3-1-1, the use of data driven analytics for the Department of Human Assistance, commitment to green technology initiatives, and a progressive training and professional development program for Department of Technology employees. All while maintaining the highest level of integrity and accountability to the constituents of Sacramento County.

Department of General Services, Purchasing Recognized

The Department of General Services’ Purchasing Division has been recognized by the National Procurement Institute (NPI) with the 2016 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement. NPI is designed to establish cooperative relationships among its members and to develop efficient purchasing methods and practices in the areas of governmental, educational, and institutional procurement. The Achievement ​​of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) award is earned by those organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on standardized criteria. The criteria are designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership attributes of the procurement organization. 

3rd for 2016 Digital Counties Survey

Sacramento County strives to make life better for all its residents and business owners by using technology in innovative ways. The Center for Digital Government’s 2016 Digital Counties Survey recognized these efforts and placed Sacramento County in third out of hundreds of U.S. counties. The Digital Counties Survey provides an annual measure of county performance and innovation in using technology. Learn more.

Contract & Purchasing Services Division Recognized

Sacramento County Contract & Purchasing Services Division was presented with the U.S. Communities Customer Appreciation Award by the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance. The award honors organizations that are leaders in saving dollars through the use of cooperative purchasing and saving taxpayer dollars. 

Old Florin Town Improvement Project Wins Award

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SACDOT) has received a California Transportation Foundation (CTF) Local Street Project of the Year Award for the Old Florin Town Improvement Project. Award recipients were recognized at the CTF awards event on May 25, 2016. The annual CTF awards program recognizes excellence in California transportation every year -- all modes -- from both the public and private sectors and from all regions of the state. SacCounty Fleet Recognized as Leading Fleet

Government Fleet ma​gazine and the American Public Works Association (APWA) announced their Top 50 Leading Fleets for 2016, including Sacramento County’s Fleet Services. The awards program, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, recognizes operations that are performing at a high level, particularly in fleet leadership, competitiveness and efficiency, planning for the future, and overcoming challenges. Sacramento County Women Dedicated to Ending Child Sex Trafficking​

On January 26, the Sacramento County Probation Department and The California Endowment celebrated two leaders who have demonstrated noteworthy leadership and emphasis to putting an end to child sex trafficking: Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Honorable Stacy Boulware Eurie received the Judicial Officer of the Year award; and Sacramento County Deputy Probation Officer Tydamika Sasser was honored with the Chief Probation Officer’s Award of Excellence for her work with the Youth Detention Facility, Juvenile Court Investigations and the Juvenile Field. ​
