Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award - National Purchasing Institute

The Department of General Services’ Contract and Purchasing Services Division was recognized for excellence in public procurement based on national criteria that measures innovation, professional development, eProcurement, productivity and leadership by National Purch​asing Institute.  

Sacramento County in Top 100 Best Communities for Young People

Sacramento County r​eceives a national award for the fourth time by America’s Promise Alliance and ING U.S. for prioritizes youth education and well-being; increasing high school graduation rates; and preparing youth for college. 

Vineyard Plant wins American Society of Civil Engineers, Outstanding Water Treatment Project Regional Award

The Vineyard Surface Water Treatment Plant is the Sacramento County Water Agency’s critical companion project to the Freeport Regional Water Project and is the largest project undertaken solely by the Water Agency with more than $200M in construction costs. The plant treats up to 50 million gallons of drinking water per day initially, and will expand to 100 million – or roughly 100,000 homes/businesses. Winning this award for the second year and advancing to a regional award from a section award recognizes the extensive planning and design, and dedicated County staff and consultants who helped construct this critical project. 

Sacramento County Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Sacramento County Department of Finance is receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 22nd consecutive year from the Government Finance Officer Association for the County's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, also referred to as the CAFR. Airport’s Terminal B Named Regional Project of the Year by Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG)

Terminal B received the 2012 Regional Project of the Year for its energy efficient, $1.03B terminal modernization that boosted the local economy. Read news release.

International Airport Wins Award of Excellence – Airports Council International-North America

Terminal B has received the Richard A. Griesbach Award in the 2012 Airport Concessions contest for innovative and outstanding concessions. The concessions give customers a sense of place in a uniquely designed interior. Read news release.

County Receives $100K Rebate from SMUD for Energy Efficiency Program

Of the 22,800 street lights that Transportation maintains, 1,400 were replaced with energy efficient fixtures. SMUD estimates that the fixtures will save $65,000 annually. Read the presentation for the Board Agenda

Airport's Terminal B Named Real Estate Project of the Year

The Sacramento Business Journal named the Sacramento International Airport's Terminal B as Real Estate Project of the Year on September 21,2012. Terminal B opened in November of 2011 and has won five additional regional and national awards for engineering and construction excellence. Its many environmental features earned it Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification in April 2012.

2012 Project of the Year (Water/Wastewater Category)-Sacramento Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers

The Sacramento County Water Agency Vineyard Surface Water Treatment Plant was recognized for the project’s extensive planning, design and construction.

Probation Officer Receives Traffic Safety Excellence Award

Senior Deputy Probation Officer Bill Hepworth received the annual Traffic Safety Excellence award at a presentation on July 26, 2012. Hepworth was recognized by the CA Office of Traffic Safety for his work managing convicted ‘repeat’ DUI offenders on probation and helping to lower alcohol involved deaths and injuries in Sacramento County. Over 580 habitual and high-risk DUI offenders are supervised by the Probation Department’s DUI Unit.

County Takes Eighth as Top U.S. Digital County, awarded by Center for Digital Government and National Association of Counties (NACo)

Rewarded for efficient use of technology for citizen engagement in the 2012 Digital Counties Survey, Sacramento County is a top U.S. technologically-advanced county government in the 500,000 or more population category. Read News Release.

County Earns Six National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards

The awards honors county programs and initiatives that improve service delivery, achieve cost efficiency, provide quality customer service, and help develop a better-trained work force. Sacramento County earned NACo Achievement Awards for the following programs:

  • ​​Medi-Cal/CalFresh Service Center improves service to customers by extending hours and provides online and automated services.
  • New child care payment program to administer $400,000 to parents in the CalWORKs program each month.

  • Integrated time management program to speed up the claiming process and provide accurate budget information every two weeks.

  • Partners Against Chronic Truancy (PACT) addresses a growing concern by local school districts about increasing chronic truancy.

  • Free food facility mobile phone apps and companion mobile website give consumers information about restaurant health inspections.

  • Probation patrol cars equipped with automated license plate reader systems to reduce car thefts and enhance victim restoration.  Read press release

Dr. Neil Lowry Memorial Award - The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals

The Environmental Management Department’s Pool Team has been chosen as the recipient of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals’ prestigious 2012 Dr. Neil Lowry Memorial Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions of public health officials in advancing safer and healthier use of recreational waters. It is awarded annually to the aquatic health program judged to be the best in the U.S. It includes a plaque and $5,000 to support educational, technical, and operational activities by the winning program. Read Press Release 

Gold Award of Excellence -   Solid Waste Association of North America

In competition with more than 8,000 members, the Department of Waste Management and Recycling received the highest award for excellence for its Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems. This system is a comprehensive waste prevention, recycling, composting and disposal program aimed aid reducing, recycling and managing solid waste in a way that most effectively protects human and environmental health.

Sacramento International Airport won two awards at the Airports Council International – North America Conference, 1st place, Special Events, 2nd place, Print and Television Advertising Categories. Read news release.

Clean Air Award – Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails

Media Award - California Environmental Health Association

Communication and Media Officer Kerri Aiello was presented the award at the Association’s 61st Annual conference for her efforts in helping with the Environmental Management Department’s outreach in environmental and public health protection.

The award recognizes projects and individuals who best exemplify the principals of partnering & acknowledge the collaborative efforts of teams who achieve extraordinary results.

Sacramento Environmental Commission Recognition Award for Sacramento International Airport

In the category of Demonstration of Use of Tools, Techniques, and Best Practices to Address Sustainability. Given annually to companies, organizations and individuals who have protected environmental resources while enabling economic progress.

American Council of Engineering Companies Engineering Excellence

Golden State Award is for AECOM, Corgan Assoc., Inc. and the Sacramento County Airport System for Sacramento International Airport’s Big Build Program.

American Society of Civil Engineers for The Big Build

The Sacramento County Airport System won the Sacramento Section Project of the Year for The Big Build. It was presented to SCAS, Buehler & Buehler, and Corgan​ Assoc. Inc in association with Fentress Architects.
