Sacramento Public Relations Association (SPRA): Gold CAPPIE

Sacramento County Airport System was honored with a 2011 Gold CAPPIE by SPRA for Short Term Public Relations Programs for the entry titled “New Terminal B Soars at Sacramento International Airport.” 

Welfare Client Data System Recognition

In September, the Department of Human Assistance was awarded at the WCDS Consortium for aligning Welfare Client Data System with the existing County Medical Service Program in CalWIN to enable early implementation of Low Income Health Program eligibility determination for clients.

WTS (Women in Transportation) Sacramento Chapter Innovative Transportation Solutions Award

The Sacramento International Airport’s Big Build Program was given this award

Computerworld Laureate Award

Computerworld honored the Department of Human Assistance with a Laureate Award at the CalWIN Consortium for the creation and use of IT to promote and advance the public welfare, benefit society and change the world for the better.

The National Association of Counties Achievement Award – Time Management System

The Department of Human Assistance was recognized by the National Association of Counties for new and innovative methods for carrying out services and programs.

Volunteer Center of Sacramento - Volunteer Spirit Award

The Department of Human Assistance volunteers for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program was awarded the Volunteer Spirit Award for their work to change and improve the community.

Heroes of Human Services Award

The Human Services Coordinating Council and Sacramento County Board of Supervisors gave the Heroes of Human Service Award to the Department of Human Services Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and Foster Grandparent Program for having touched the lives of others through their advocacy, dedication, service and support within Sacramento County.

Sacramento County Board of Supervisors - Spirit Award

The Department of Human Assistance volunteers for the Foster Grandparent Program were awarded the Spirit Award by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors for their work to change and improve the community.

Sacramento County Employee Giving Campaign

The Department of Human Assistance was recognized for placing 1st in Tier 3 for its contributions to local and national charitable organizations.

Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting – Sacramento County Airport System

The Sacramento County Airport System received an Excellence in Financial Reporting Certificate for its ​Annual Financial Reporting for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2010.

Sacramento County Airport System Chief Financial Officer of the Year – Public Sector

Lisa Stanton, CFO of the Sacramento County Airport System was named the Chief Financial Officer by Sacramento Business Journal.

Best Concession Program Design – Medium-Sized Airports

The Sacramento County Airport System was awarded the Best Concession Program Design by Airport Reve​nue News. The award is given to airport concessions programs whose strong design standards and attractive storefronts offer an inviting shopping atmosphere.

Sacramento Habitat for Humanity Outstanding Community Partner “Hammy” Award

Guy Fuson of the Department of Finance was awarded a 2011 Sacramento Habitat for Humanity Hammy Award for Outstanding Community Partner. Guy was given the honor for his work on tax-default land sales and acquiring property to help this non-profit provide low-income housing in our community. View more information.

Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award - National Purchasing Institute

The Department of General Services’ Contract and Purchasing Services Division was recognized for excellence in public procurement based on national criteria that measures innovation, professional development, eProcurement, productivity and leadership by National Purchasing I​nstitute.

2011 SACOG Salutes Regional Project of the Year Award Winner : Hazel Avenue Improvement Project – Phase 1

The Hazel Avenue Improvements Project has won the prestigious Sacramento Area Council of Governments 2011 SACOG Salutes Regional Project of the Year award. Recipients were honored at the SACOG Board of Directors meeting on December 15. Phase 1 of the project was completed in September, and is part of a major Department of Transportation effort to improve Hazel Avenue from U.S. 50 to Madison Avenue.

California Association of Counties Challenge Award

California Association of Counties Challenge AwardThe Violation of Probation In Lieu Night Court (Probation Department and District Attorney) helps relieve court calendars and reduces main jail overcrowding and saved $12.6 million for the County and the Superior Court over a two year period. Nine California counties were honored with a 2011 Challenge Award statewide.

Kevin J. Neese Award

The Environmental Management Department’s Abandoned Well Program received the 2011 Kevin J. Neese Award from the California Groundwater Association. The Neese Award recognizes significant accomplishments by a person or entity that fosters the understanding, protection and management of groundwater.

Information Security Award – 2nd place

Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center: Department of Technology

National Association of Counties Achievement Awards

The Department of Human Assistance implemented the Facility Consolidation Project closing or consolidated 10 facilities resulting in a $2.4 million reduction in annual lease payments and operating costs.

Food Safety Leadership Award - California Conference of Directors of Environmental Health

John Rogers, Chief of the Environmental Health Division, received the Gary Erbeck Food Safety Leadership Award for his work on menu labeling, trans fat, and the Food Handler Card requirements. John also led the retail food protection program which received the Samuel J. Crumbine Award in 2008 and the CCDEH Excellence in Environmental Health Award in 2007.

Child Support Services Outstanding Program - Child Support Directors Association of California

The award recognized a local child support agency that has consistently provided quality child support services.

Achievement Award Winner National Association of Counties

Achievement Award Winner National Association of CountiesSacramento Department of Human Assistance Facility Consolidation Program - in recognition of an effective and innovative program which contributes to and enhances County Government in the United States.

USDA SNAP Hunger Champions - Bronze Award - US Department of Agriculture

The Department of Human Assistance was recognized for high achievements in granting expedited CalFresh to those most in need and in reaching a very high (70%) participation rate in the program.

Certificate of Achievement - Government Finance Officers Association

The Department of Finance won the award Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2010.

Corporate Excellence – Community Health Charities

The Award was given for Sacramento County’s efforts in increasing the dollar amount of the Employee Giving Campaign by $15,775 in 2010.

Leib/Kronberg Excellence in Service Award

Carl Crain, with the County General Services Department, won the first place award for implementing an Online Surplus Sales system which increased efficiency, scope of potential bidders, and revenue to the County.

Lifetime Member Award - California Hazardous Materials Investigators Association

Environmental Specialist Heather Tanner was presented the award for her dedication and distinguished service having served as Sacramento Area Director in 2007 and as Vice President in 2009.

Litigation Award – California County Counsels’ Association

Supervising Deputy County Counsel Rick Heyer received this award for his work in challenging the underfunding of the state mandate regarding County services for special education students.

Juvenile Institution Staf​f Member of the Year - California Probation, Parole & Correctional AssociationCalifornia Probation, Parole & Correctional Association Seal

Probation Assistant Michelle Pearson was selected for collecting more than $100,000 in donations and helping to develop programming for detained youth by recruiting volunteers for the Leadership, Educational,
Athletic Program (LEAP).

California District Attorney Association’s (CDAA) George Williamson Trial Career Achievement Award - CDAA Summer Conference in San Diego

Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney John O’Mara was awarded for exemplifying the highest standards of the profession and demonstrating experience in complex and difficult criminal or civil prosecutions. The recipient must have contributed to CDAA and the public safety community through training, writing, mentoring, legislative advocacy, and/or public service.
