Coronavirus

Coronaviruses are a class of respiratory viruses that can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses like SARS and MERS. COVID-19 is one type of coronavirus. Approximately 80% of confirmed cases have had mild to moderate symptoms. However, there is evidence that some people infected with COVID-19 show no symptoms but can still spread the virus to others. Using face coverings over your nose and mouth along with social distancing and hand washing can help stop the spread of the virus in your community.

Isolation and Quarantine

COVID-19 Resources for Those in Isolation or Quarantine

If you are sick

By now, everyone should know that if you are sick, stay home. However, new evidence suggests that those infected may be contagious longer than the seven days from when symptoms begin. The CDC recommends ending home isolation under the following conditions:

  • At least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since the resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications; and
  • Improvement of respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); and,
  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

Those with cold or flu symptoms who can manage their symptoms at home with over-the-counter drugs should do so, regardless of whether they have a cold, the flu or COVID-19. If difficulty breathing and lethargy develops, or symptoms were better then got worse, call your healthcare provider or urgent care center ahead so they can prepare care for them. Health care providers will determine if testing is needed.

To clean surfaces exposed to the virus EPA has a list of disinfectants for COVID-19.
